Rumour: Transformer Prime Delayed Until New Year Due To Wi-Fi Issues

Several recent reports have indicated that Asus will delay the Transformer Prime release until next year, citing Wi-Fi issues as the reason. Apparently NCIX sent an email to customers who had pre-ordered the device, notifying them of the expected delay. Here is the redacted text of one customer’s email:

Unfortunately, we just received word that the ASUS Transformer Prime has been delayed worldwide and will most likely not be available before Christmas. ASUS feels the WiFi range does not currently meet their standards and has delayed all shipments worldwide. At the moment there is no ETA and no information on available quantities on the first batch.

ASUS Transformer Prime: Available Now At Amazon, Best Buy

There’s no need to wait any longer. The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime is now available to pre-order from several online retailers in the USA and Canada. No word yet on the shipping date, but expect some time in early December.

It’s available from Amazon.de for EUR 39.99 right now. We’re not sure exactly when it will ship (hopefully around the same date as the Transformer itself). This cover’s well worth considering, along with the optional keyboard dock to jazz up your purchase. ASUS Transformer Prime – Official Launch

ASUS has officially unveiled the Eee Pad Transformer Prime. This is the world’s first quad-core Tegra 3 device, and is every bit as impressive as you’d hoped. The official specifications are now revealed – boasting an even better battery life than we’d previously reported.

Specifications:

  • 10.1-inch SuperIPS + display with Gorilla Glass
  • 1280×800 screen resolution
  • 1.3GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 Processor with 12-core GPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 32GB or 64GB internal storage with microSD card slot
  • microHDMI port
  • 8MP F2.4 rear shooter with continuous flash for video recording, 1.2MP front camera
  • 8.33mm thin

Yes, that’s Gorilla Glass you see there. For those of you who aren’t aware, Gorilla Glass is the gold standard in toughened glass, and has been used by most high end Android handsets lately (including the Samsung Galaxy S2). It’s practically impossible to break, and highly resistant to scratches. Asus has also coated the screen in a special hydro-oleophobic (fingerprint resistant) coating, which should prevent smudges or greasy marks inhibiting the viewing experience. Transformer Prime Arrives at the FCC, Model Number Confirmed

ASUS Transformer PrimeWith the launch date of November 9th rapidly approaching, the Asus Transformer Prime has been submitted to the FCC for review. Most of the details are hidden behind confidentiality agreements, but we have been able to confirm some details from the publicly visible documents.

According to the RF Test Report, the model number for the Transformer Prime will be “TF201″. The old Eee Pad Transformer was “TF101″, so this seems reasonable. No word yet on whether there will be different model numbers for international regions.

The FCC documents also confirm the presence of WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities. Of course, that’s to be expected on any Android device these days, so nothing surprising here. We’ve already heard some official specifications from the teaser at AsiaD, including the presence of mini-HDMI, SD Card Slot, 14.5 hour battery life, & Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich”. Asus Transformer Prime teaser

ASUS has just revealed one of the hottest new Android products of 2011 – the Eee Pad Transformer Prime.

This is the successor to Asus’ popular Android tablet, the Eee Pad Transformer. Asus is targeting a very specific market here, by offering a premium Android tablet with a detachable keyboard. However, unlike the combined iPad cases which can often include a keyboard, Asus has fully integrated the keyboard into the device.

Not only can the keyboard be clipped on for an elegant “netbook” style device – the aluminium chassis which houses the keyboard also contains an extended battery. This allows the Transformer Prime to reach a battery life of up to 16.5 hours. That’s far better than any mainstream offerings on the market today.

The Transformer Prime will also be the first tablet device to feature Google’s new Android release – version 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich”. This update sports a ton of new features, from face recognition to enhanced email & productivity apps. The all-new operating system is likely to be a major selling point for the Transformer.
